Riyadh Municipality has started initiating the first phase of the "Smart Entry Systems on King Fahd Road" initiative, using automatic regulation technology (Ramp Metering) in the area between its intersection with King Abdullah road and the intersection with Mecca Road, as part of Riyadh Municipality's efforts to shift towards a smart city in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
The "Entry Systems" initiative is based on utilizing the latest technologies in regulating the movement of vehicles from the service lane to the main lane and achieving efficiency in mobility flow by creating high-quality traffic designs that take into account safety standards and are keen to improve the experience of road users.
The initiative aims to improve the urban landscape of Riyadh city, reduce travel times within the city, contribute to improving the behavior of road users and increasing their awareness, raise the level of traffic safety, promote the efficiency of the road network and reduce the harmful emissions.
The initiative comes in the context of Riyadh Municipality’s concern in improving the urban landscape of the city, upgrading the efficiency of roads, and achieving greater fluidity in its movement, as it seeks to integrate among its various initiatives aiming at enhancing the city’s competitiveness at the international level, and employing advanced technical achievements to serve residents and visitors. Riyadh Municipality is keen to strengthen its partnerships with various government agencies to improve the quality of services provided to residents, and the initiative "Entry Systems on King Fahd Road" is a model for effective partnership between them and the General Traffic Department, and an extension of the various successful partnerships aiming at achieving the aspirations of residents in their city.
