Open data is data that anyone can freely use without technical, financial or legal restrictions, and also able to re-use and publish it, taking into account the requirements of the legal license under which this data was published through Open Data Platform

Riyadh Municipality has provided open data for all its visitors through an open library portal that contains several types of data in multiple formats which facilitate processing and reuse, in order to enhance transparency and encourage e-participation. Riyadh Municipality sought to share this data with the beneficiaries

Riyadh Municipality also made it possible for the beneficiary to obtain data in various formats by submitting an open data request and these requests will be closed within 30 business days from the date of submitting the request

Riyadh Municipality Moves Toward Greater Transparency and Innovation by Enhancing Open Data Publishing

Riyadh Municipality continues to strengthen its open data ecosystem as one of the key enablers of municipal digital transformation and a vital contributor to achieving the goals of Vision 2030. Through the provision of high-quality, accurate, and reusable datasets, the Municipality aims to support innovation and enable the public and private sectors—as well as the research community to develop solutions and services that enhance quality of life across the city of Riyadh.

The Municipality is currently developing its Open Data Plan for 2026, which aims to provide high-value, high-quality datasets that enhance transparency, support informed decision-making, empower the data community, and elevate institutional maturity in line with leading national and international practices. This plan builds upon the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to strengthen data as a foundation for decision making, improve urban services, and track performance indicators fully aligned with the Kingdom’s direction toward a data-driven and knowledge-based economy.
