Riyadh Municipality harnesses its resources in preparation for flood season

Riyadh Municipality has completed preparations for rainy season through an integrated plan of high human potential and mechanism supported by an integrated technical system.

Riyadh Municipality plan includes recruitment of more than (2000) engineers, supervisors and workers equipped with more than (600) equipment to drain rainwater from all sites of water gatherings after rainfall immediately. The emergency plan also included the responsibilities and duties of all participants during the rainfall and coordination with Ministry of Transportation, National Water Company and Saudi Electricity Company.

Riyadh Municipality confirmed that rainy season has priority in business work of Municipality, whether for both projects of implementation or continued maintenance works.

Riyadh Municipality is carrying out currently an intensive campaign for  maintenance of floods and tunnels networks in the city prior to the beginning of the rainy season, including the removal of network violations , maintenance of floods networks in main streets and critical sites ,and refining and cleaning of outflows of flood networks as part of its annual plan under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, under direct following up from His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan ,Mayor of Riyadh Region to support the development of municipal services in the capital.

Riyadh Municipality Emergency Center (940) receives all types of reports 24/7 , and deals with them according to a specific mechanism which includes rain reports, where reports are being handled through automated replying system, fax, email, SMS, website, and through (Sawr w Ersel) Mobile App., and Twitter account , and it is Communicating with field supervisors to follow up progress of work in sites of water gathering.

Riyadh Municipality has also established "Monitoring & Control Center" to monitor tunnels during the rainy season using “Escada” system, where the system is designed to monitor water levels in collection tanks and the possibility of operating submersible pumps remotely, as well as operating back up energy for lighting and pumps in case of power failure at any time.

In order to preserve the safety of inhabitants of Riyadh and its visitors, Riyadh Municipality has launched “Hather” Mobile App. , which provides information to city's residents about critical locations in Riyadh city and guide them to alternative routes during rainy seasons, allowing them to know weather, and critical routes and intersections, in addition to ability to track or browse critical sites which are close to the user, and notifying him. The user can also report critical locations using mobile devices, which support GPS, 3G or 4G.
