In a step that embodies the commitment to enhancing sustainable development, protecting the environment, and preserving the cultural identity of the capital, His Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, the Mayor of Riyadh, has issued new administrative decisions, including the establishment of three specialized general departments. These initiatives aim to support balanced urban transformation, enhance environmental and cultural development, and achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.  

His Highness directed the establishment of the General Department for Valley Development under the Projects Agency, responsible for preparing and updating the comprehensive plan for valleys and tributaries in Riyadh. This department aims to manage these natural resources effectively and sustainably, contributing to flood risk reduction, enhancing public safety, and improving the quality of life in the city.  

Additionally, the General Department for Valley Protection was established under the Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Agency. This department is tasked with preserving valleys from encroachments and violations, ensuring their utilization in a way that maintains their ecological balance and reinforces their role as natural retreats for the city's residents. It will also work on transforming valleys into scientific sites for nature research, open spaces for promoting environmental awareness, and fostering local community engagement in conservation and development efforts.  

The decisions also included the establishment of the General Department for Culture under the Assistant Agency for Community Engagement. This department will be responsible for supporting and managing cultural and historical aspects of the city, empowering the cultural and creative sector, nurturing national talents, and facilitating access to cultural heritage through modern technological means, while also promoting community participation in cultural activities.  

These decisions reflect the Riyadh Municipality’s commitment to developing the capital through an integrated approach that balances urban growth, environmental preservation, and cultural identity conservation. They align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to build sustainable cities, enhance quality of life, and strengthen community involvement in the development journey
