  • What are GMOs and GMFs?

GMOs is defined as genetically modified organisms ,as organisms have been altering their genetic DNA in a manner which does not occur naturally. This technology is called "Modern Biotechnology" or "Genetic Technology" and sometimes called "Re-Installing DNA", or "Genetic Engineering", since it allows for individual selected genes to move from a living organism to another, and also between organisms of different origins.

These such methods are used in the production of transgenic plants, which are used in the cultivation of  genetically modified food crops.

  • Why genetically modified Foods are produced?

It has been developed and marketed genetically modified foods; because it have some tangible benefits for producer or consumer, in terms of the low costs or its nutritional impact, "These products are less affected by surrounding factors or its high nutritional value" or both.

Initially developers of genetically modified seeds wanted it to be accepted by producers; therefore they focused on innovations which find acceptance among farmers and food makers. The first objective of the development of derivative plants from genetically modified organisms is to improve crop protection, and the main objective of the crops currently available in the markets is the access to higher levels of crops protection ,through improving their resistance to infection by insects or viral diseases, or through increasing their ability to adopt pesticides.

It has been invented virus resistance through adding genes from certain viruses, which are responsible for causing diseases in plants, so crops will be less susceptible to diseases caused by these viruses; leading to increasing crops production.

The ability to adopt pesticides also has been developed by adding a gene from one species of bacteria. This will take with him a recipe resistance to some pesticides , where it has been found that the use of these such crops reduces the amount of pesticides used ,when the crop were badly infected .
