2025-11-02The “Layali Al-Muhawara and Al-Samri Nights” event will launch this weekend in the Qasr Al-Hukm area at Sahat Al-Adl. Organized by the Emirate of Riyadh Region and the Riyadh Municipality, the event celebrates Saudi folk arts and revives the Kingdom’s authentic heritage in the historic heart of the capital, reflecting the identity of the place and the richness of local artistic traditions.
This initiative comes as part of ongoing efforts to highlight performing folk arts as an integral part of national identity and to stimulate the cultural and tourism movement in Qasr Al-Hukm—one of Riyadh’s most prominent historical landmarks. The event aims to enhance Riyadh’s position as a destination for heritage-centered activities and to provide a cultural and entertainment environment that enriches visitors’ experiences, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The event will run from November 6 until January 23, featuring two weekly evenings: every Thursday dedicated to Al-Muhawara poetry duels and every Friday to Al-Samri performances, offering a delightful winter experience that harmonizes with the vibrant atmosphere of central Riyadh—blending artistic creativity with authentic folk heritage.
“Layali Al-Muhawara and Al-Samri Nights” will feature distinguished poets and folk groups from various regions of the Kingdom. Visitors will enjoy 12 Muhawara nights, with four poets performing in each evening, while Samri troupes will present group performances that embody the spirit of unity and the rich Najdi heritage.
The event seeks to revive Al-Muhawara as one of the oral poetic arts based on improvisation and audience interaction creating a scene of challenge, wonder, and creativity. It will also showcase Al-Samri, one of the most prominent traditional performing arts in Najd and northern Saudi Arabia, characterized by its rhythmic harmony and group performance that reflects joy and social cohesion.
Through this event, the Emirate and Municipality of Riyadh Region reaffirm their commitment to supporting cultural and artistic activities that contribute to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by strengthening the role of heritage in community development, celebrating national identity, and encouraging community participation in enriching Riyadh’s cultural and tourism landscape.
